Anybody out there looking for me? Just check this picture so see if I'm around. My new office is spacious enough, but the camera only looks at part of it. Check this to see a wider shot of the room. If the lights are on, then I'm probably REAL close. If the panel is mostly dark, except for the sunlight coming thru the window or the indicator on my desk phone, then the place is empty and I'm nowhere to be found. If the panel is totally black, then the camera is down. I don't always know when this happens, so please tell me. This picture updates every time you refresh your browser, so clear your cache and reload often to see what is going on in my office. Please note the clock on the wall in the background. It's an atomic clock, so the time should be right on. For you world travelers, this office resides in the PACIFIC TIME ZONE. Late 2005 thru middle 2007 was a wild and crazy time for Media Services. Starting on 12/07/2005 we abandoned our original 1980's TV studios in the first floor of the Library main building for a brief diversion into temporary trailers on the Library lawn. Moving my office was just the tip of the iceberg. You can't imagine the effort it took to transplant the complete Butte College television broadcast center into the crowded confines of a portable trailer space about the size of a large bathroom. That was fun, but was only the beginning. Operating two TV channels out of a trailer was more than a challenge, although I did appreciate the flexibility of cutting random holes in walls and floors when needed to run cable. BCTV stayed in those temporary trailers until July of 2007, when we went on the move again. The $14 million Butte College Library renovation and expansion project was finally completed, and BCTV was transplanted once more from the outside trailers into our brand new facilities on the first floor in the Media Center wing of the Library building. Once again, you can't possibly imagine what a job that that move was. It should have been easier, but a whole new set of challenges popped up. At least now it's permanent, and I don't have to worry about it anymore (or, at least until I retire). Several photos from the completed BCTV control studio and broadcast classrooms can be found here. More may be added as I take additional pictures. We are all very proud of our new digs. Butte College is located north of Sacramento, CA between highways 99 and 70 about 12 miles north of Oroville in Butte County. The campus is around 950 acres, and is a designated wildlife refuge. Back in the Old Days, my workday associates had me pegged as a workaholic here at Butte College, and at the time they were right. Why did I need to spend time at home, when all of my toys were here? I've only recently discovered other outside interests that now consume most of my free time, so I'm only here during normal work hours. I was originally hired to deal with technical matters related to television broadcasting and other video services, but have expanded over the years into such areas as campus and wide area video conferencing; all forms of distance education; internet hosting and media streaming along with departmental computers and networks. New areas of responsibilities have me dabbling in other District and (until recently) statewide list servers. How did I end up with that? My time is divided between an ever-increasing engineering workload here on campus, and the transmitter site high in the mountains overlooking the Sacramento Valley. One site is enough, thank you! This page posting is sort of a creative outlet for me. You'll have to decide if I'm an effective presenter. I'll try to keep it more up to date with interesting stuff. Thanks for visiting my messy place of work.
